The Baltimore Convention Center sits on the Inner Harbor and hosts MANTS, one of the largest horticultural trade shows in the country, along with Baltimore Comic-Con and a steady calendar of regional shows. It is friendlier than the mega-centers, but the dock schedule and utility deadlines still reward preparation.
Key venues: Baltimore Convention Center.
Marquee shows: MANTS, Baltimore Comic-Con.
Maryland is not a right-to-work state, but the labor climate here is moderate. Exhibitor self-setup is generally allowed within show rules, with utilities ordered through the venue.
Is our AV setup union compliant at the Baltimore Convention Center?
Maryland is not a right-to-work state, and decorator and freight labor at BCC shows runs through the general contractor. In practice most shows here let your full-time staff set your own booth and place your own equipment. The line is drawn at dock work, forklifts, and electrical connections.
How much does drayage cost in Baltimore?
It is billed per hundredweight with a minimum, through the show's contractor. Baltimore rates typically come in below Chicago, New York, or San Francisco, but late shipments and loose freight still get surcharged. The show kit has the current rate card.
Can we plug our own monitors and equipment in?
Once power is delivered to your booth, plugging your own displays and computers into that outlet is normal exhibitor work. The power drop itself is ordered through the venue's utility services. Order at the advance rate and size the circuit for your real load, including LED walls and amplifiers.
What should we know about the building itself?
BCC's exhibit halls sit on one level with direct dock access, which keeps move-in simple compared to multi-building venues. Downtown Baltimore traffic and limited marshalling space mean scheduled dock times matter. Don't send a truck early hoping to get in sooner.
What deadlines matter most for a Baltimore show?
The advance warehouse window and the utility discount deadline. For MANTS in January, holiday shipping compresses the advance window. Plan freight before mid-December or budget for direct-to-show rates.
Do we need special approval to hang anything overhead?
Hanging signs and overhead AV go through the show's rigging provider, with weights and drawings submitted in advance. For most BCC booth sizes, ground-supported displays are faster and cheaper than overhead rigging. We'll tell you when a hang isn't worth it.
