The Moscone Center hosts Dreamforce, RSA, and GDC across three buildings with underground docks and the most explicit union jurisdiction on the West Coast. Sign & Display Local 510's charter specifically includes electronic digital signs, video walls, and monitors. Exhibiting well here means knowing exactly where every line sits.
Key venues: Moscone Center.
Marquee shows: Dreamforce, RSA Conference, GDC.
Moscone's jurisdiction is the strictest on the West Coast. Sign & Display Local 510 explicitly covers video walls and monitors, and self-setup is capped at 10 feet, 30 minutes, no tools.
Is our AV equipment union compliant at Moscone?
Yes, with more care than anywhere else out West. Local 510 handles installation of all displays, explicitly including video walls and monitors mounted to booth structure. IATSE Local 16 covers AV, rigging, and theatrical work. Teamsters handle all freight and wheeled equipment, and IBEW Local 6 handles booth electrical including under-floor wiring. We build our install plans around those four…
What can our own staff do themselves at Moscone?
The strictest threshold in our footprint. Full-time employees may set a display only if it's under 10 feet wide, takes under 30 minutes, and needs no tools. You may always assemble products you manufacture, but display structures, backdrops, and anything a product mounts to is union-installer work. Hand-carry means one trip with no wheels at all.
How much does drayage cost at Moscone?
Per-CWT with minimums through the show's contractor (Freeman runs most of the majors here), in one of the most expensive labor markets in the country. There is no public rate card. Budget from your show's kit, ship crated and consolidated, and note the advance warehouse caps single pieces at 4,500 lbs.
What's unusual about Moscone's docks?
They're scarce and partly underground. A handful of docks serve each hall and some halls have none dedicated. Trailers max out at 53 feet, and catering can preempt bays. Trucks stage off-site with certified weight tickets and get dispatched as space opens. Dock time is the tightest constraint in your move-in plan here.
Can we hang a video wall or truss at Moscone?
Through IATSE Local 16 and the venue's published rigging rules. Hang points are rated per hall, from 5,000 lbs per point in Halls A through C down to 500 lbs elsewhere. Bridling is restricted and sign cables cap at 25 lbs each. Heavy overhead LED needs early engineering. Ground support is often the smarter San Francisco design.
Are internet and power venue exclusives at Moscone?
Internet and telephone, yes. Moscone Facility Services is exclusive, and orders should go in one to two months ahead. Booth power comes through the show's electrical contractor with IBEW Local 6 labor from floor ports. Two-story booths are prohibited where ceilings are under 24 feet, and covered structures need approval, smoke detection, and extinguishers.
